Have you ever realized you were out of mirror cleaner so you lived with a dirty mirror until you could run to the store?

What if you learned that you can actually clean a mirror with just water?

Cleaning a mirror with just water works really well.  All you do is use a microfiber cloth to get your mirror a little wet, then wipe it down to get all the water off, and then dry with a clean cloth.

But, there is a very specific way to do it so you don’t get streaks or mess up your mirror.

Check out these steps below and happy cleaning your mirror with something that is 100% free to use (unlike those cleaners at the store!).

Step 1 – Pre Clean Your Mirror

The first step is to wipe down your mirror and the frame with a dry cloth.

Start at the top of your mirror and work your way down to the bottom.

Getting the dust off your mirror will make the next few steps easier.

Step 2 – Using Just Water

It may seem surprising that you can wash a mirror with just water, but it does work!

Get your cloth lightly damp.  We recommend using a microfiber cloth.  If you’re not sure which microfiber cloth would be best, check out our article about our top 6 picks for the best microfiber cloths for mirrors.

Gently wipe down your mirror and make sure you aren’t dripping any water.

If you are dripping water, wring out your cloth before continuing.

Water (or any type of cleaner) can ruin your mirror if you let it drip and get in between the mirror and the frame.

Step 3 – Drying Your Mirror

Once step two is finished, grab a clean microfiber cloth to dry your mirror.

This step is critical!!

Microfiber cloths will give you a nice finish and prevent streaks.

Start at the top of your mirror and with one long continuous stroke, wipe all the way down your mirror until you reach the bottom.

Start on one side of your mirror and work your way to the other side.

That’s it!
