How to get mud out of white carpet

You glance up and see your adorable puppy and a huge glob of mud on your white carpet.  Nooooooo!

Your natural reaction will be to immediately try to wipe it up, but don’t do that!

This will be tough, but you must let the mud dry.

It may seem like the last thing you want to do, but dry mud is so much easier to get out of carpet than risking pushing the mud further into the white carpet fibers.

So, here is what you do.

Step 1 – Let the mud completely dry.

Step 2 – Vacuum the area.  Coit recommends going over the area at least 16 times and from all directions.

Step 3 – Mix a solution of 1 teaspoon of dish soap and 1 cup of warm water.

Step 4 – Using a clean white towel, gently blot the area with the solution.  Start from the outside of the stain and work your way to the middle.

Step 5 – Repeat step 4 as many times as it takes for the stain to disappear.  Then, using a clean white towel, gently blot the area with plain water to rinse the area of any soap residue.

Step 6 – If a stain persists, then mix 1 teaspoon of laundry detergent with 1 cup of warm water.  Test one area by gently blotting the area with the solution.  If it picks up the stain, then finish cleaning the entire area.

Step 7 – Let the area dry for a couple hours.  Keep people from walking over the area until it is completely dry.

*Note – If the stain still persists on that beautiful white carpet, then it might be time to call in the professionals.

Wool carpet is perfect for busy homes.

It keeps its shape despite lots of traffic and will be looking nice for years to come.

It’s pretty upsetting though when you find mud on your carpet!

Here are the steps that will effectively get mud out of your wool carpet.

Step 1 – Let the mud dry completely.  This is a tough step because we naturally want to clean it up right away.

Step 2 – Once the mud is dry, sweep the area as best as you can.  Thoroughly go over the area at least 15 times with the sweeper.

Step 3 – Water is actually the best way to start.  Blot the area with a clean white towel and plain water.  Start at the edge of the stain and slowly work your way to the middle.  This will help keep the stain contained as you add water to the area.

Step 4 – Continue blotting the area until the stain is completely gone.  If it is still there after using the plain water multiple times, then use a solution of 1/4 cup of vinegar and 1 cup of water.

Step 5 – Continue to blot the area with the vinegar and water solution, but be careful to not use too much water because wool carpet tends to hold moisture.

Step 6 – Let the area dry for several hours and try to keep people from walking over the spot while drying.
